Independence Day

We had a great 4th of July! Nothing fancy, nothing thrilling, just chillin'. In the morning we went to the park with Grandma & Grandpa and just played. Then we headed to their house and had a barbecue and watched "The Music Man", the Matthew Broderick/Kristen Chenowith version. Then we headed home, played some Super Monkey Ball, and had our own fireworks show out front with Gr. & Gr., some friends and neighbors. Logan continued his tradition of running to the end of the block with sparklers. He set a new record this year . . . he made it to the end of the block and back with sparklers still sparkling. Lauren spent the whole time trying to convince us that she likes fireworks, and Easton got to sleep through the whole thing. Fun day with the family . . . we're glad David got the day off!

Swimming Lessons!

Since it's summer, Logan and Lauren have been in swimming lessons. Swimming lessons was always one of my favorite parts of summer, and it is for them, too. If you ask Lauren if she can swim now, she'll tell you "only underwater". Today was the last day, and Logan has passed level 5 (shark) and is ready for level 6, the last level. I think we'll save it for next summer. Lauren is still pre-level 2, she didn't quite float by herself, so she needs to retake it. Maybe later this summer, we'll see.

Happy Father's Day!

This is David's 11th Father's Day (as a father), and here are 11 things (we had to stop somewhere) that make David a great dad . . .

1-He cooks (more than I do)
2-He prepares good FHE lessons
3-He takes Lauren & Easton for rides in the trailer behind his bike
4-He is aware when Lauren is feeling neglected and lets her comb his hair (sometimes she even gets to use barrettes!)
5-When they were tiny babies he would get up in the night to hand me the baby
6-Cleans up a crib full of diarrhea (including stripping the child in the crib)
7-Changes diapers . . . lots of them
8-Goes to church
9-Has a job
10-Really wants to go to Logan's scout things, even when he can't
11-He really loves his kids

Where'd it go?

Easton really needed a haircut . . . so it only took about two weeks to get to the presentable part. At least it's presentable in front -- the back is still questionable. He absolutely HATES getting his hair cut. The first day I tried to buzz it but his hair was too fine, so I got out the scissors. Then I was afraid I'd cut his ears off, so I quit until a day when David could help. He held him last night while I tortured. I still couldn't finish (the back is crazy) but at least he doesn't have a mullet anymore like he did after the first attempt.

Straight A Logan

Today was Logan's last day of 5th grade. We're proud to say he is a straight A student. He also got a bronze medal in the 3-legged race. Now, what do we do with him all summer?
